Quick reference
What the deposit means
A deposit is accepted only after the application is approved and the puppy or litter arrangement is confirmed.
Applied to the purchase price
The holding fee reserves the puppy and is credited toward the final price.
The puppy leaves availability
Once the deposit is accepted, Heartland holds that puppy for the approved family.
If the buyer changes their mind
The deposit is not returned if the buyer decides not to complete the adoption.
Health exception
The deposit is refunded if the puppy develops serious health complications or passes away while still in Heartland’s care.
Planning for a future litter?
Upcoming-litter deposits work a little differently.
Heartland may accept one male and one female preborn deposit after a pregnancy is confirmed. If the requested match is not born, the deposit may be refunded or moved to a future litter. Heartland retains first choice from each litter.

How payment works
Do not send money until Heartland confirms your application, the puppy’s availability, and where to send payment.
Receive instructions
Heartland provides the complete mailing address privately to approved applicants.
Send the deposit
A mailed deposit must arrive within four business days. Make it payable to Heartland Dachshunds of So IL. Personal checks are accepted for deposits only.
Pay the final balance
The remaining balance is due by eight weeks of age. Accepted methods are cash in person, cashier’s check, or Zelle.
